With earliest fossils appearing 3.5 billion years ago as Stromatolites, Bacteria is the oldest domain. Translated to "Rod" because of their appearance, Bacteria are prokaryotic and thus lack membrane-bound organelles and a nucleus. While lacking the level of complexity found in Eukarya, Bacteria makes up their deficiency with their amazing numbers and ability to adapt.
